Brandi Carlile Background

Born in a very small town in Washington, Brandi Carlile grew up isolated from her neighbors and friends. To entertain herself when she was young, she started to teach herself how to sing. Her parents also instilled in her a love for country music, particularly for Patsy Cline, whom was a favorite of Brandi's mom. She first found her way on stage when she was just eight years old at a local country radio show. Even though Brandi clearly had a talent for singing and performing, it wasn't until she was 15 that she picked up a guitar. Shortly after, Brandi performed onstage as a backup singer for an Elvis impersonator and dropped out of school to pursue music.

When she was 17 years old, Brandi started performing in local clubs all over Seattle, gaining a reputation as a phenomenal singer and emotionally powerful songwriter. While playing gigs around Seattle, she met twin brothers Tim and Phil Hanseroth of the band, The Fighting Machinists. She became an instant fan of their musical talent, and persuaded them to form a new group with her. The band blended aggressive rock and roll with beautiful lyrics and acoustics, making them desirable opening acts for major artists like Dave Matthews, India.Arie, and Shawn Colvin.

After touring for years and recording several self-released records, Brandi had earned enough hype to catch the attention of Columbia Records in 2005. That very same year, her self-titled debut album earned such phenomenal rave reviews that Rolling Stone dubbed her one of 2005's "Artists to Watch". Since breaking out onto the music scene, Brandi Carlile has been widely recognized as one of the best singer-songwriters around, and her heartfelt lyrics have touched fans all around the world. With her big voice, emotive lyrics, and strong on-stage presence, Brandi Carlile is known for putting on one of the best performances around. Make sure that you are in the crowd when Brandi steps out on stage in Nashville this July, because she is bound to blow the roof off of the venue. Grab your Brandi Carlile tickets on StubHub today!

Brandi Carlile isn't just a fabulous songwriter when it comes to writing songs for herself—she also writes songs for other top artists. She wrote the song "Same Old You" initially as a joke, but when it turned out to be really good, she sent it over to Miranda Lambert, who loved it so much she made it her own.
