Branform Marsalis is from Louisiana and is the oldest four brothers who are all musical. Marsalis got his career started after he studied at Southern University. Marsalis spent the '80s touring with artists like Art Blakey and Clark Terry. With his brother Wynton's group, Marsalis brought back the sounds of Miles Davis. In 1992, Marsalis became musical director for the Jay Leno show but left after only a few years because he didn't like the idea of being a side-kick.
