About Brian McKnight
Born in Buffalo, New York, Brian started his musical career in childhood at the local church
choir. At the age of 21, he would storm onto the music scene after his older brother's band Take 6 signing a major record
deal with Warner Brothers. McKnight's talent and stardom were spurred by his brothers mainstream musical success, and he would
soon sign onto Wing Records and start his breakout solo career.
Years into his career McKnight would move onto Motown
records as he and his music were still constantly changing and evolving. He would stay on Motown for just six years, and during
that time would release his best selling ever album Back At One. Brian would find himself no stranger to collaboration as
he worked with numerous other artists throughout the 2000's, including soul artist Guy Sebastian. He would also venture out
into the theatre has he made his Broadway debut in 2007 in "Chicago". Brian would lend his musical chops to a radio show titled
"The Brian McKnight show" which would be simulcast across North America for over four years. A patriot at heart, Brian would
become known for hitting the National Anthem circuit across the States, playing at numerous NBA and MLB all star and championships
Brian's first self titled album Brian McKnight, released in 1992, would be a strong
first showing for the young performer. Brian McKnight would hit fifty-eight on the Billboard 200 chart, with the single "One
Last Cry" carrying the album. "One Last Cry" would be a hearty and emotional ballad that would establish McKnight's musical
brilliance for strongly emotional yet catchy songwriting.
Brian would follow up his debut album with I Remember You
in 1995. I Remember You would be carried by "Crazy Love", again pushing the US charts list alongside with "On the Down Low".
His 1997 follow up Anytime was an even bigger hit, hitting top 20 in the Billboard 200. Anytime was supported by singles "You
Should Be Mine (Don't Waste Your Time)", "Hold Me", and the hit title track "Anytime". "Anytime" would sweep R&B radio
waves across the country and become one of Brian's most played tracks.
Back At One, his 1999 release, would be McKnight's
highest selling album, eventually going triple platinum. While every song on the album could be a hit, it was carried by the
unforgettable singles "Back At One", "Stay or Let Go", and "6, 8, 12". This album showed extensive musical growth that at
the same time held on to the gritty and real emotion that made Brian McKnight a breakout name in the R&B scene.
would go on to release consistent hits throughout the 2000s, including Superhero (2001), U Turn (2003), Gemini (2005), Ten
(2006), Evolution of a Man (2009), Just Me (2011), and his most recent album More Than Words (2013).
More Than Words,
Brian McKnight's twelfth full length studio album, would be entirely self produced and include collaborations from respected
artist Colbie Caillat, and participation by two of Brian's sons, Niko and Brian McKnight Jr. More Than Words balances adult
themes with fatherhood, showing Brian's growth through hardship and raising a family.
three sons, named Brian Jr., Clyde, and Niko.
Brian's songwriting has become increasingly deep and exploratory. He's
been noted for songwriting that has lent itself towards more adult themes than his early work.
McKnight's musical influences
stem from his early days playing in a gospel quartet with his brothers. His brother's musical choices would influence him,
specifically their interest in Jazz.
