Buffalo Bandits Rivalries
The Buffalo Bandits are one of the very best teams in the
National Lacrosse League, and as such, they have accrued several big rivals over the last several years. The Bandits were
thrust into the spotlight in 1992 right out of the gates upon formation, beating the Philadelphia Wings in the NLL Championship
game to take home the title in their very first year of existence. The Wings have continued to be a rival of the Bandits ever
since that very first championship game matchup, as a nearby lacrosse team and an annual top competitor for the NLL title.
Over the years, the Buffalo Bandits have also collected some other big rivals across the league, including NLL teams like
the Rochester Knighthawks, Calgary Roughnecks, Portland LumberJax, New York Titans and, most recently, the Toronto Rock. With
matchups annually against all of these teams, the Buffalo Bandits have their work cut out for them year after year, and the
team packs the stadium at the First Niagara Center every time they face a big rival on home turf.
The Buffalo Bandits first jumped onto the professional lacrosse scene in 1992, when they joined the Major Indoor
Lacrosse League (MILL). Upon the league's shift to the National Lacrosse League (NLL) in 1998, the Bandits became a NLL powerhouse,
dominating the league with some big division and league wins. In fact, the Bandits came right into the realm of pro lacrosse
with a bang, becoming the first expansion team in MILL/NLL history to take home the conference championship title in their
first year of existence. The Bandits came into the NLL proving they were a team to take seriously, and the team continues
to be a force in the league, having won the NLL championship title a handful of times since their first year, in 1996, 1997,
2004 and 2006. The Bandits are one of the longest tenured expansion teams to still exist, just behind the Philadelphia Wings,
and they continue to command respect with their tough lineup and big wins.
