Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl Schedule

The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl has been an Arizona tradition for years. The game has been held at three different locations in the state; it has called Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University in Tempe home in recent years and should continue to do so for the foreseeable future. The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl is one of the rare bowl games that is played before New Year's Day and matches up a team from the Big Ten against a team from the Big 12, two of the premiere colleges in all of college football. It has featured some of the best college football players of all time, many of whom have gone on to long and successful careers in the NFL. This year it means that Michigan and Kansas State will be facing off against one another at Sun Devil Stadium in Tucson on December 28th with kick off slated for 8:15 PM Mountain Standard Time. Expect the game this year to be an unforgettable experience, not only because of the two high quality teams involved but also because there will be plenty of celebratory events involved with a long-running bowl game.

The Teams

The Michigan Wolverines football team has a long and storied history in the NCAA and has boasted several notable alumni including Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Jim Harbaugh, Braylon Edwards, Jake Long, and others. Michigan as a program boasts both the most wins and the highest winning percentage in college football history and appears to be on the verge of another return to dominance under the guidance of coach Brady Hoke who has really started to turn things around at the university. This should come as no surprise, as Hoke himself is a Wolverine and would love nothing more than to see his alma mater win, especially if he can have anything to do with their success.

The Kansas State Wildcats are playing in a bowl game for the fourth straight year and will undoubtedly be looking to knock off a big time program like Michigan. Coach Bill Snyder, in his unprecedented 22nd year with the program, has been turning things around for the Wildcats since the 1990s, making the program a force to be reckoned with both in the Big 12 and in the NCAA as a whole. Kansas State has produced a number of notable NFL players itself including Martin Grammatica, Darren Sproles, Jordy Nelson, and others. Who knows what future NFL superstar you may be seeing take the field for the Wildcats at this year's Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl?

The Experience

Upon entering Sun Devil Stadium fans are well aware that they are about to see a college football game unlike any other. The players warming up on the field are visibly fighting off nerves and trying to get out all of the jitters before the opening kick off. The crowd is full of players' families, alumni, hordes of journalists and sports writers, locals who are always thrilled to take part in the annual tradition, and college football fanatics who are hoping to see another historic college football match up. The pageantry of the cheerleaders, mascots, marching bands, and wild fans are enough to get you out of your seat, and then the game begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, clutch field goals, and game breaking plays fill up the day of world class college football. By the time the clock winds down your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip the following year.

The Players

Of course one of the best part about college football bowl games is watching some of the best student athletes in the world perform on the biggest stage and the 2014 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl has some talented play makers who could be taking the field for the last time as a college athlete. Michigan's Taylor Lewan is a Sports Illustrated All American on the offensive line and could figure to be drafted highly in this year's NFL Draft. Kansas State return man Tramaine Thompson has game changing speed and will be looking to break open some big runs early on to loosen up the defense and help get the Wildcats' passing attack going. Year after year there are players who are not household names who step up and make a big impact at the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and it will be exciting to see which players do it this season.

The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl has been around since 1989 although it was originally known as the Copper Bowl, back before nearly every bowl game changed its name to be named after a corporate sponsor. It was also previously known as the Bowl and the Insight Bowl before finally settling on the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
