How did Cage the Elephant happen? That's been on the minds of more than a few critics listening to the indie-rock band's
latest LP, Thank You Happy Birthday. They sound as if they've stepped right out of 1994, with their influences lying closer
to the alt-rock of that time then most of the indie-pop sounds of the past decade. In reality, they've stepped right out of
Bowling Green, Kentucky, and fans have been rushing out to get concert
tickets to see them live.
Cage the Elephant were a left-field delight for rock critics attending SXSW in 2007, when their live performances earned
them a record deal. The band had come out of Bowling Green, Kentucky - hardly the place you would expect classic alt-rock
to mix into such a perfect package. But after releasing a self-titled debut just a year later, it was clear this was no practical
joke. These guys are good, and have great songs to back up the hype.
After their initial success, the band traveled to the U.K. to establish themselves. But now they're back with their second
album, Thank You Happy Birthday, and touring across the U.S. They'll be playing a series of music festivals later this year.
