About Calvin Harris
Hailing from Dumfries, Scotland, Calvin Harris (born Adam Richard
Wiles) spent his early years interested not in music but in sports. His sports career would never quite take off, so Calvin
would settle instead on international stardom as one of the premier DJs worldwide. By the late 90s, Adam would be recording
and mixing his own music regularly, and eventually figured out that he would have to move to the musical mecca of London in
order to fully experience the lifestyle of a musician and grow as an artist. By the time he was eighteen, he had already caught
the club scene bug and was producing local scene hits on the regular. Within a decade, he would be one of the household names
in the house movement.
Sony BMG would soon scout Calvin Harris as a big up and comer, after his works had made a fair
showing on the internet haven for up and coming musicians, MySpace. Having headed back home because of financial issues, Adam's
world would be turned upside down as he became a professional musician that enjoyed the backing of some of the biggest labels
and organizations within the recording industry.
His earliest recordings would pave their own way musically, mixing
elements of the most happening up and coming club genres into something that was entirely his own. His name would spread like
wildfire across the UK club scene, picking up multiple hit singles, having his music featured on television, and snagging
a coveted spot on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix.
Calvin Harris became a staple in UK media, making his way onto various
major television programs and becoming somewhat of a center of gravity within the celebrity music scene. From invasions of
the stage on the UK's X Factor to laying claims about plagiarism of his music by other artists, he became known not just for
his epic music but cheeky attitude and constant shenanigans. Today, Calvin Harris is on a constant worldwide tour schedule,
and in his few spare moments is mixing up the next big hit for club scenes around the world.
Harris' big debut full length would drop in 2007, after nearly a decade of buildup with a constant stream of hit singles and
addictive tracks. His debut, I Created Disco, would immediately be certified gold as it sold off the shelfs, and hit the #8
position in the UK charts. The album contained a slew of heavily sampled singles, including "Vegas" and "Colours", which dominated
the club scene for months on end. The album would gain him numerous recognitions, including nominations for Best Electronic
Artist at the BT Digital Music Awards, Best Breakthrough Artist at the Q Awards, and the XFM New Music Award.
recent release, 18 Months, dropped in 2012 to monumental acclaim as it hit the #1 spot in the UK and charted in the top twenty
across dozens of other major charts. The album has multiple gold certifications, and has cemented Calvin Harris as one of
the premier DJs working the scene today. 18 Months featured some of his most memorable hits today, including eight singles
from the album alone, such as "Bounce" "We'll Be Coming Back" and "Thinking About You".
Harris was kicked off of the stage of The X Factor in grand fashion, as he ran on stage during filming with a pineapple on
his head. He offered a seemingly insincere apology for his transgression shortly afterwards.
