Scottish indie-pop band Camera Obscura unfailingly draws comparisons to fellow Glaswegians Belle and Sebastian (they’ve
even employed one of the latter band’s members, Richard Colburn). But they still have a style and sound distinctly
their own. Lovers of all things twee pop will fall in love with the band after hearing them play live.
The band formed in 1996, slowly cultivating a following until 2001, when infamous British DJ John Peel brought them to
wider acclaim. The band received rave reviews for their 2002 album Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi, which served as a major debut in
the wider alternative scene. 2003’s Underachievers, Please Try Harder and 2006’s Let’s Get Out of This
Country broadened their fan base further.
The trouble with small, indie outfits from across the Atlantic is that they never seem to come your way when they’re
on tour. Any time you have the opportunity to see your favorite band at a venue near you, you should pounce on concert
tickets. You never know when Camera Obscura tickets will be available to you again.
Look up above and see where they’re playing!
