Campbell University is located in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Campbell University was founded in 1887 as a community school, and by 1926 the school attained junior college status and finally became a senior college in 1961. The fighting camels, the school's nickname for both the men's and women's athletic teams, compete in Division I of the NCAA. The basketball games are played in the Carter Gymnasium.
The fighting camels appeared in their only conference championship at the Division I level in 1992. Campbell University basketball players won the Big South Conference held that year at the Civic Center of Anderson and followed with placement in the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
