Fairbanks, Alaska is famous for a few things, one of which being the gold rush in the mid nineteenth century, and the other being the annual college basketball tournament known as the Top of the World Tournament. The Carlson Center is located on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. It was opened in 1990, built as a permanent home for the Nanooks hockey program. The name Carlson Center comes from John A. Carlson, a former mayor of Fairbanks. The Carlson Center seating chart is available for you to view. It is capable of seating 5,703 at max capacity for basketball games but about 1,000 fewer for hockey.
The Carlson Center is the home of the University of Alaska Fairbanks ice hockey team, known as the Nanooks. The Nanooks play Division-I NCAA hockey in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. Their inter-conference rivals include some pretty good hockey programs, such as the University of Michigan Wolverines, the Michigan State Spartans, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
