Carnesecca Arena History
Carnesecca Arenais a 6,008-seat multi-purpose arena in Queens County, New York. It was
built in 1961 and renamed in honor of Hall of Fame Coach Lou Carnesecca in November of 2004. It is the exclusive home to the
St. John's University Red Storm women's basketball team, and also hosts the men's team on occasion. The St. John's Red Storm
are a Division I basketball team that dates back all the way to the early part of the 20th century. The Red Storm compete
in Big East, one of the elite conferences in college basketball. College basketball is one of the most popular sports in the

made it a budding center for shipping both in the past and the present. The area was first settled by Dutch settlers in the
1620s, and was originally named New Amsterdam. The city was renamed New York when it later come under English control. New
York served as the capital of the nation from 1885 to 1890.
