Cat Power was born Chan Marshall and grew up around the piano with her father. Power dropped out of high school and moved to New York to pursue her dream as an artist. Playing under the name Cat Power, she received the attention she needed to advance her career and eventually opened for Liz Phair. Soon after Power was signed to the record company Matador and released Dear Sir in 1995. During the '90s, her popularity continued and she is back on stage to get emotional once again.
