About Center of Gravity Festival

The Center of Gravity Festival was founded in 2007 by Scott Emslie, and is organized by Wet Ape Productions. It is held at City Park in Kelowna, British Columbia, and features beach sports, volleyball, basketball, wakeboarding, freestyle mountain biking, skateboarding, and BMX. The festival also features three stages of music playing everything from hip hop to house.

Attendees are free to dance at any number of the music areas, play a variety of sports, or participate in fun activities and games. The event also draws in about 150 professional athletes, allowing attendees to watch live competitions in any of the seven featured sports.

Center of Gravity Festival's Breakthrough

When the Center of Gravity Festival first started out, it was simply a beach volleyball tournament called "Volleyfest." The event was a success, so Scott Emslie and his team decided to expand on the original plan. During the following year, an area was added to include FMX (freestyle mountain bike riding), as well as a dirt jump competition. This was the first year it officially went by the name "Center of Gravity." Over the next few years more and more sports were added, and it began to draw the attention of more musical acts.

However, it was in 2010 when the Center of Gravity Festival captured national attention. Starting in 2010, the festival was established as one of the largest sport and entertainment festivals in western Canada. At this point, there were two stages and numerous sports and other activities.

The Center of Gravity Festival's popularity has now exploded, with over 25,000 people attending in 2011 and 28,000 people in 2012. Last year, the event quickly sold out and attracted the likes of Hoodie Allen, Kaskade, Wolfgang Gartner, DVBBS, and Clockwork.
