CéU was born Maria do Céu Witaker Poças in São Paulo to a very musical family, her father is a composer and musical arranger. She decided that she wanted to be a full-time artist when she was still a teenager. The artist began studying music passionately, learning music theory and the violão. Eventually she moved to New York City, where she came into contact with many new musical influences before returning to her home country to launch her career.
