About Chaka Khan

The legendary Chaka Khan first rose to popularity when she was a vocalist in the funk band Rufus. After the band's breakout hit "Tell Me Something Good" soared to the number 3 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, the group was catapulted to fame. They later won a Grammy Award, and they went on to release a number of additional hits like "Sweet Thing," "Once You Get Started," "Hollywood," and "Do You Love What You Feel." Their platinum albums became massive hits, like "Rufusized," "Ask Rufus," "Rufus, Featuring Chaka Khan," "Masterjam," and "Street Player." Rufus' massive success was largely due to Chaka Khan's stage presence and incredible vocals. By 1978, Chaka was ready to shine as a solo star, and she scored a record deal with Warner Bros.

Chaka Khan went on to release her anticipated debut album in 1978, which was propelled to success by the song, "I'm Every Woman." The album would eventually achieve platinum status, and it would pave the way for her future success as a solo performer. She continued to release albums in the next few years that followed, but it was her sixth album, "I Feel For You," that took her fame to the next level. The title track of the album became a huge hit, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reaching number 1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart and the Hot Hip-Hop/R&B Songs chart. The song even topped the chart in the U.K. The success of the album "I Feel For You" was also driven forward due to hits like "Through the Fire" and "This is My Night," both of which remained very popular during the time.

Throughout the decades that followed, Chaka Khan continued to garner critical acclaim and commercial success. In addition she has won 10 Grammy Awards in the categories of Best R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Album, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance, and more. She is also the recipient of the 1998 Lena Horne Award for her remarkable achievements in music.
