Wednesday, March 12, 2014 is a day that
has long been on the radar of avid tennis lovers and you can be sure that thousands upon thousands of fans will be descending
upon Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on that brisk spring evening. In addition to the stars on the court you can
count on seeing some big time stars in the audience looking to catch the biggest tennis superstars of all time competing once

of the year so start making plans to be in Nashville in the middle of March as soon as possible.
in 1984, the four participants in the Champions Challenge took part in what is considered by many to be the greatest day in
the history of professional tennis. Both of the semifinals of the men's side of the U.S. Open were thrilling five set matches
with Ivan Lendl beating Pat Cash in the first match. After that, Martina Navratilova defeated Chris Evert in the women's final,
preceding John McEnroe's five set victory over Jimmy Connors in the second men's semifinal. The day featured many of the biggest
tennis superstars of all time and the matches were all back and forth slug fests between two heavyweights. The following day
John McEnroe would win the U.S. Open by defeating Ivan Lendl but for most tennis aficionados the Super Saturday event was
the most memorable part of that year's U.S. Open. Champions Challenge brings together all of the participants in the men's
portion of that day to play each other once again. It will be a day full of both nostalgia and great displays of athleticism
and competition. You can be sure that none of the event's participants have lost an ounce of their competitive nature and
will be looking to show that they still have what it takes to compete on a big stage.
McEnrore is one of the most iconic figures in the history of men's tennis, known as much for his killer shot making and competitive
nature as for his hot headed antics when arguing with officials. He won seven Grand Slam tournaments during his career including
four U.S. Open tournaments. Jimmy Connors is another former number one ranked tennis player. He won eight Grand Slam tournaments
during his playing career including five U.S. Open titles. Ivan Lendl also won eight Grand Slam titles and was one of the
dominant figures in tennis of the 1980s. He is widely considered one of the best tennis players of all time and is another
former number one ranked player. Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash was ranked as high as number four in the world and was
a major force on the ATP tour in the Eighties when he won his fair share of tournaments. These four athletes represent some
of the best tennis players of all time and the pinnacle of success in the men's game during the 1980s.
Challenge ATP Tour
In 1972 Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale formed the Association of Tennis Professionals
in an effort to look out for the interests of male tennis players all over the world. For nearly twenty five years ATP has
organized the professional tennis world tour for men (the women's tour is organized by WTA, the Women's Tennis Association)
and stands as the official governing body of the sport. There are several events that are part of the tour and all serve to
help decide which player deserves the top ranking in the world. The BNP Paribas brings together some of the top men's tennis
players in the world according to the ATP as well as some of the top women according to WTA.
the original Super Saturday at the U.S. Open in 1984, Pat Cash was not supposed to be in the field. He was chosen as a replacement
for Mats Wilander who was forced to withdraw from the competition, and fortunately for tennis fans the world over, history
