Charles Aznavour Background

Charles Aznavour was born in Paris, France in 1924 to Armenian parents. After his parents moved to France, Charles' father started singing in various restaurants and later decided to open his own dining establishment. Charles was introduced to theatre and the arts at a young age, and by the time he was nine years old he had decided to drop out of school to pursue his love for performing. For several years, Charles spent his time performing at local music venues and writing his own music. Finally in 1946, Charles got his big break thanks to the iconic French singer Edith Piaf. As soon as Edith heard the young Charles sing, she was immediately infatuated by his clear and powerful voice and decided to bring him on tour with her. And just like that, Charles Aznavour had found his way into the mainstream music industry.

For the next several decades, Charles Aznavour earned the reputation of being the "French Sinatra", as his songs frequently focused on the theme of love. In fact, this nickname is quite fitting considering the fact that he was one of the only European singers who sang a duet with the legendary Frank Sinatra. Charles also collaborated with many other high-profile international stars, such as Edith Piaf, Fred Astaire, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Bing Crosby, Liza Minelli, and countless others. Aznavour has used his incredible voice, fantastic songwriting skills, and infectious on-stage energy to cement his place in music history as one of the greatest jazz and pop legends in the world.

There's no doubt that Charles Aznavour is a talented artist – he has over eight decades of a successful career to prove it.
