Charles Bradley Tickets - Charles Bradley Tour Dates

Charles Bradley Schedule

Most musicians appreciate their loyal fan base, just as many are grateful for them, but few artists have a sincere passion for their fans as much as Charles Bradley.

Charles Bradley has been active in the music industry since 2002 and he has released several singles, like This Love Ain't Big Enough for the Two of Us, Take It As It Come and No Time For Dreaming.

If you love funk and blues tunes then Charles Bradley is the man you'll want to see when he schedules a show near you. You can catch him at the 930 Club in Washington, D.C.; the Bowery Ballroom in New York, New York; and the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York.

Charles Bradley Background

Born in Gainesville, Florida, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Charles Bradley trounced a devastating life on the streets. One of the more positive moments of his tumultuous childhood arrived in 1962 when his sister took him to a James Brown show at The Apollo. Bradley was instantly moved by Brown's energy, which inspired him to pattern the Godfather's stage persona and antics.

Bradley's new-found purpose led him to focus on getting off the streets.

A federal program for assisting needy families, Job Corps, got Bradley out of Brooklyn. Bradley suddenly found himself in Bar Harbor, Maine, learning how to cook. He leveraged his time in Maine by forming a band.

He was invited by some Job Corps female employees to perform on stage. The women went wild for Bradley's first live performance. He knew right then that he was fated to be an entertainer. But as luck would have it, his fellow musicians were drafted in the Vietnam War, so Bradley was pressed to look for work at a hospital that treated the mentally ill in Wassaic, New York.

After nearly a decade of cooking for over 3,000 people daily, being badgered by local authorities and having no musical vice to turn to, Bradley made the decision to quit Wassaic and pursue his dream out West. Bradley had hitched all the way from the East Coast to the West Coast and wound up in Alaska, where he got work as a chef. Eventually, after dealing with conflict from his co-workers, he flew to California.

Bradley spent over two decades in California still working as a chef and entertaining on the side. Although he didn't have a consistent band or gig, he played when he could. It looked as if Bradley's life was turning around. He was even ready to make a down payment on his first house. But then bad luck reared its ugly head again when he got laid-off from his job.

Bradley weighed the pros and cons of staying out West and decided it was best for him to return to Bushwick, Brooklyn, to be with his family. He packed up everything he owned and made the cross-country trek back to New York. At this point, Bradley was discouraged with working as chef so he made a change and became a handyman - which also allowed him to work on his musical career.

He found a niche for himself, performing at area Brooklyn clubs. He took the name, Black Velvet, to play out his James Brown persona. At 51 years old, Bradley was finally moving in the direction that destiny had always laid out for him.

But as Bradley's luck always seemed to go, he was tested when his brother was shot and killed. The walls had closed in on Bradley once again.

Just when Bradley was at rock bottom, Gabriel Roth of Daptone Records caught Bradley's Black Velvet act. Roth was captivated by Bradley's raw talent. Bradley was immediately invited to participate in a session with the Sugarman 3. His debut single, Take It As It Comes, validated Bradley as a worthwhile vocalist.

Bradley soon started working with songwriter/guitarist Thomas Brenneck. They put out two singles under the moniker of Charles Bradley and the Bullets. Although the Bullets disbanded, Brenneck realized Bradley's talents and began working with him on a new group, Menahan Street Band. The World (Is Going Up in Flames) and Heartaches and Pain were products of Bradley's lifelong struggles. He channeled his painful stories into moving and heartfelt lyrics.

Their first full-length record, No Time For Dreaming, served as a labor of love for the duo.

The year following the release of No Time For Dreaming brimmed with one victory after another. Bradley took the stages of Bonnaroo, South By Southwest, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival and Outside Lands to present unforgettable shows that cultivated rave reviews.

Bradley also landed spots on year-end best lists from Spin, GQ, Rolling Stone, Paste and more! A true inspiration, Charles Bradley is one to see perform live in concert.
