Charleston Classic Schedule

The Charleston Classic is a preseason college basketball tournament that was first played in 2008 and continues to quickly grow in popularity each year. Eight teams make up the field for the tournament with the losers of the opening games moving into a losers bracket. The Charleston Classic features some of the best preseason college basketball to be found anywhere and college hoops fans from all over the country will be coming to Charleston to be a part of all the excitement. The Charleston Classic is one of the most popular tournaments in all of college basketball and tickets sell out quickly so be sure to get yours early while you can still choose from among the best seats in the house.

Once again the Charleston Classic will be held at the TD Arena, one of the top sporting venues in all of South Carolina. The 2014 tournament boasts an impressive field and will unfold from November 20th through the 23rd. The opening round will feature four exciting games as USC takes on Akron, Drexel goes up against Miami, Penn State battles Charlotte, and Cornell has a big game against South Carolina. The winners of the opening games advance to the winners bracket and continue their quest for the championship the following day during semifinals while the losers remain alive in a consolation bracket. Those fortunate and talented enough to win on the second day advance for the title game on the 23rd. Each year some of the most exciting games of the college basketball season take place during the Charleston Classic so be sure to make all of the appropriate plans to be in Charleston, South Carolina in late November.


Charleston Classic History

The Charleston Classic has been held since 2008 and has had some of the best teams in college basketball participating in the event every year. Past winners of the tournament include Clemson, Miami, Georgetown, Northwestern, Colorado, and the reigning 2013 champions, UMASS. This year's field of contestants is as impressive as ever and college hoops fans from all over the country will be coming to Charleston to bear witness to all of the action.


The Experience

Many of the best student athletes in the world participate in college basketball, and the game gives birth to some the most passionate fans in the world of sports, this combination produces an environment that is unparalleled. When you step into TD Arena for the 2014 Charleston Classic this will all be evident. As the teams get set for the opening tip off, fans stand up and loudly cheer for their favorite team. The games continue with end-to-end action, big-time shots and clutch defensive stops. Suddenly the clock is winding down in the second half and the two sides are desperately looking to gain control of a game that has been back and forth for most of the afternoon. Anxiety fills the arena both on the court and in the stands and each possession becomes more and more important. Finally one team pulls ahead just long enough to advance to the next round and their players and fans explode in ecstasy.


The Teams

Some of the best teams in college basketball will once again be taking the floor during the Charleston Classic. Always full of top notch student athletes, the USC basketball team never fails to leave the crowd impressed and wondering how they are able to perform such amazing feats of athleticism on the basketball court. Some highlights from the Trojans basketball team include making it to the Final Four in 1954, and winning the PAC 10 regular season championships in 1985. In 2013 Miami won both its first regular season ACC championship as well as its first ACC tournament championship and continues to be a powerhouse program in one of the best college basketball conferences in the country. The Charlotte 49ers first put together a basketball team in 1965 and experienced success early on. Back in 1977, it really came together for the Charlotte 49ers, as they ran through their conference and even ended up taking a swing at a national championship. With such an impressive program that knows how to dominate their opponents, the 49ers have put together plenty of memorable seasons, giving fans lots of major thrills in the process as they've become icons of the Charlotte sports scene. These are just a few of the elite programs taking part in this year's Charleston Classic, so be ready for some top notch college hoops action when heading out to TD Arena for the Charleston Classic.

The Charleston Classic is owned and operated by ESPN, a company that knows a thing or two about sports. The close association with ESPN allows the Charleston Classic to attract all of the biggest names in NCAA basketball, making it one of the top preseason tournaments in the country.
