Chayanne was born Elmer Figueroa-Arce on June 28, 1968 in Puerto Rico. Chayanne got his musical start at the young age of 11 when he became a member of the boy band Los Chicos that was supposed to be the rival to another boy band Menudo. Los Chicos did well enough to release five albums but in 1984 Chayanne went solo with his debut album Mi Nombre es Chayanne.
