The Chieftains were formed in 1963 in Dublin and made a name for themselves in Ireland in the '60s with their first four released albums. It wasn't until the '70s that the U.S. caught on the music of the Chieftains. When they provided the music for the Stanley Kubrick movie Barry Lyndon in 1975, they major attention in the U.S. and everyone found out who The Chieftains were.
