Chita Rivera was born Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero in Washington, D.C. in 1933. In 1944 she became a student at
the Jones-Hayward School of Ballet until she was cast on the Broadway production of Call Me Madam in 1952. She continued
to perform on the Broadway stage and proved her talents when she became the first Anita in West Side Story. She is one
of the few Puerto Rican women to receive such success in the acting world and continues to perform today.
