About Chris Cagle

Chris Cagle was born in Louisiana, but moved to Texas at the age of four. Young Chris was just six years old when he began taking guitar lessons, though he would stop after a year. During high school he took up the piano. By graduation he would switch back to guitar. After high school he began his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Arlington, but dropped out at age nineteen to begin his career as a musician. After moving to Nashville in 1994, he would struggle long and hard to establish himself. His first efforts were published by Nashville star Harlan Howard. Howard's faith in the determined young musician helped Cagle land his first publishing deal with country star David Kersh.

It would be while working at a restaurant that he would be discovered by one of the staff of Virgin Records Nashville. Virgin signed the promising musician and released his first single, "My Love Goes On and On." In October of that year, Virgin released Cagle's debut album Play It Loud. The album made its mark on the country charts, and established Cagle as one of the finest singer-songwriters in the genre.

The next year, Cagle switched to Capitol Records. This label would re-release Play It Loud with two new bonus songs in June 2001. Within the decade Cagle would release three more original albums. He would release a self-titled album in 2003, and his hard-rocking Anywhere But Here was released in 2005. In 2008 he released the earnest, straightforward My Life's Been a Country Song. In 2010, Capitol celebrated Cagle's musical career with The Best of Chris Cagle.

After a full ten years of mainstream success, Cagle would take a break from his music. He would build his own ranch, get married, and begin a family. He eventually signed a new deal with Big Picture Music Group, and released the single "Got My Country On" in 2011. This Top 20 single, along with "Let There Be Cowgirls," were part of his latest album, Back in the Saddle, which was released in 2012.

Previous Hits

Chris Cagle's determination would pay off in spades. He would score numerous hit singles and albums. No less than fourteen of his soulful songs would make their mark on the charts. The heartsick single from 2001,"I Breathe In, I Breathe Out," would be Cagle's number one hit. 2007's plainspoken, easy rocking "What Kinda Gone" would peak as at number three on the Country Singles chart. In 2002, "What a Beautiful Day" would rise to number four. Cagle scored a two more top ten hits, "Laredo" and "Chicks Dig It." A number of Cagle's other singles made the Top 40, such as "My Love Goes On and On," "Country By the Grace of God," "I'd Be Lying," and "Miss Me Baby."

Seven of his albums would find their place high on the charts as well. Both 2008's My Life's Been a Country Song and his eponymous 2004 release would be number one country albums. The album Chris Cagle owed much of its success to his natural high-energy style and perfect country tone, while My Life's Been a Country Song showcased Cagle's easy-going, down-to-earth charm. Cagle's debut Play It Loud made it to number three on Heatseekers, and 2005's Anywhere But Here hit number four on the Country Albums chart. Back in the Saddle, Cagle's comeback album, peaked at a heartening number six.

Cagle met his wife, Kay, while serving tables at a Toys for Tots fundraiser in Oklahoma. The two didn't have much time to talk because they were so busy working. They met each other in a grocery store a few days later and started hanging out. The couple has been married over four years and have two daughters, Stella and Piper. The live on Cagle's own Big Horse Ranch.
