Christopher Cross Background
from San Antonio, Texas, gifted singer and songwriter Christopher Cross first emerged on the music scene in an Austin-based
cover band called Flash. He inked a deal with Warner Bros. as a solo artist in the fall of 1978.
His eponymous premiere
LP came out two years later. The lead single, Ride Like the Wind, shot to the No. 2 spot. His sophomore single, Sailing, cemented
Cross' superstar status. Rounding out his streak, Cross landed two more Top 20 hits, Say You'll Be Mine and Never Be the Same.
Cross swept the 1981 Grammy Awards, walking away with a record-setting five of them, including Record of the Year, Album of
the Year, Song of the Year for Sailing and Best New Artist. Soon after, he achieved a second No. 1 along with an Academy Award
for his tune, Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do). Cross co-penned the song with Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager and
Peter Allen for the big screen production of the comedy Arthur, starring famous actor Dudley Moore.
In 1983, Cross released
his sophomore album, Another Page. The album spawned the Top 10 hit, Think of Laura, popularized by its consistent presence
on daytime soap, General Hospital. All Right and No Time for Talk were two other hit songs off the album, with All Right utilized
by CBS Sports. The much-anticipated album sold respectably, but it didn't meet the commercial or the critical success of his
Cross' next two albums were Every Turn of the World (1985) and Back of My Mind (1988). He cut three more
albums in the 1990s and continued to tour and open for several headlining acts. He additionally issued his Very Best of...
album in 2002.
In 2007, A Christopher Cross Christmas arrived for the holiday season. Cross additionally completed an
acoustic album in 2008, The Cafe Carlyle Sessions, which contained his hit songs.
In 2011, he issued Doctor Faith, a
new studio album, and in 2013, A Night in Paris came out. A Night in Paris was a live album that he filmed and recorded at
the Theatre Le Trianon in April 2012.
