About Chuck Ragan

Chuck Ragan has been pursuing his musical dreams for almost three decades, and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. While he played in several bands in the late '80s and early '90s, his musical career didn't truly launch until he and his friends got together to create the band, Hot Water Music, in the '90s. As one of the lead singers, Ragan helped propel the band onto the international punk rock scene, amassing fans worldwide. After years of producing music and touring around the world, Hot Water Music disbanded in 2005, and Ragan jumped at the opportunity to launch his solo career and follow a different musical path. Veering away from the punk-scene music that had dominated his life for so many years, Ragan began to explore acoustic and electric textures, and his new musical sound both excited his old fans while gaining him new ones.

In 2007, Hot Water Music reconnected to tour the U.S. and Europe, and reunited again in 2012 to record the album, Exister. That same year, Chuck Ragan released his first book, "The Road Most Traveled", a compilation of stories by him and other musicians about life on the road as a touring artist. He applied the same soul-bearing honesty that makes his songs so popular to this personal memoir, and is currently working on another volume.

Chuck Ragan believes that inspiration can be found everywhere you look, and drawing upon this idea, he conceptualized the idea of The Revival Tour. On this collaborative tour, punk rockers, blue grass artists, and alt-country performers join forces to share music in an honest, open, and grassroots fashion. The wildly popular tour has included members of internationally renowned bands like Rise Against, Bedouin Soundclash, Get Up Kids, Flogging Molly, Gaslight Anthem, Alkaline Trio, Hold Steady, and many more.

Greatest Hits

Because Chuck Ragan has had a prolific music career that just keeps improving with age, you would probably recognize many of his songs, whether from his solo career or from his days in Hot Water Music. Some of the well-known albums from Hot Water Music include Fuel for the Hate Game, Forever and Counting, No Division, A Fight and A Crash, and Caution. As for his solo career, Ragan has produced several critically acclaimed albums, such as Feast or Famine, Gold Country, and Covering Ground.

He invited his band, the Camaraderie, to his home in Northern California to record his latest album, Till Midnight, so that the tracks would have an organic and warm feel, instead of the often sterile and commercial feel that a studio produces. Blind Melon and AWOL Nation member Christopher Thorn produced this album of sing-along Americana, which features guest appearances from Wallflowers and Foo Fighters' keyboardist Rami Jaffe, Dave Hause, Ben Nichols, and members of Drag the River. Listening to one of Chuck Ragan's albums is like being invited into his home and watching him strum his guitar and letting his soulful, honest lyrics move you and let you explore your own connection to music.

Chuck Ragan Trivia

The name of Chuck Ragan's early punk rock band, Hot Water Music, was inspired by the book "Hot Water Music" by Charles Bukowski in 1983. Comprised of short stories dealing with drinking, women, gambling, and writing, the content of "Hot Water Music" resonated with Chuck and his band members Chris Wollard, George Rebelo, and Jason Black, and so they named their band after it.
