roots date back to 2011, when Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty formed the musical trio in Glasgow, Scotland.
All three musicians has successful careers before jumping into CHVRCHES; Cook wrote and composed music for film and TV soundtracks,
Doherty was a member of the indie rock outfit The Twilight Sad, and Mayberry pursued a career in freelance journalism. Cook
and Doherty had gone to college together, so they already knew each other well before the group united.
2011, the trio's life changed forever. Cook and Doherty asked Mayberry to provide vocals on a few tracks that he was producing
for Blue Sky Archives, and the three spent the following eight months in a basement studio writing numerous songs. The more
they wrote together, the more they all realized that they had something truly unique, so they decided to form a new band together.
The trio decided on the name "CHVRCHES" because "it just sounded cool", not to make any religious statements. They did, however,
change the "u" to a "v" to make their band easier to search on the Internet.
In November 2012, CHVRCHES released their
debut single, "The Mother We Share", and quickly became one of the most talked about groups in indie music. The BBC's Sound
List of 2013 ranked CHVRCHES number five on their list of the most exciting and promising new music talent. The group signed
with Glassnote Records and have been performing at the hottest music events in the world ever since. From Pukkelpop to Coachella,
