Cincinnati Reds tickets - Reds tickets

Reds Update – Week of July 4

At the midpoint of the season, it certainly isn't a surprise to the Cincinnati faithful that the Reds are right in the middle of another playoff hunt, as it's pretty much become standard operating procedure over the years. Once again, the Reds have shown that they're one of the deepest teams in the league and has been playing consistent baseball throughout the year, putting them right alongside rival St. Louis and in striking distance with division-leading Milwaukee. As the Reds look to continue to heat up as the season wears on, the Reds look like a team that is going to be a major threat in the National League throughout the rest of the season.

Of course, it helps to have guys like Todd Frazier right in the heart of the order, as the powerful third basemen leads the team in homers, RBIs and batting average, showing that he's a complete hitter and not just a slugger. Having Joey Votto back in the lineup has also been a big help, as the All-Star veteran has been getting on base at a very good clip near.400 even while the rest of the numbers are still coming around. You also can't underestimate the contribution of Billy Hamilton, who is among the league leaders in stolen bases and has given the Reds an explosive element on the base paths.

But even though the Reds' hitters have tormented the league throughout the first half of the season, the strength of the Reds looks like the pitching staff at this point. With an ERA well below 2.00 throughout the season so far, Johnny Cueto has been arguably the best starting pitcher in the entire league so far, giving them an ace in the hole every fifth game. Also making a major contribution, of course, who has also pitched well enough to get into the Cy Young discussion. Add it all up and the Reds have the pedigree to make yet another major run at the postseason.

Reds Update – Week of June 6

Right in the middle of the division with plenty of baseball left is the perfect place for the Reds and Reds fans. Though obviously it's better to be at the top of the N.L. Central, the Reds are still right within striking distance as they look to pull it together and starting making their move on the Cardinals and Brewers. After taking three out of four on the road against the Diamondbacks to wrap up May and to start June, the Reds are hoping to turn the corner and getting a few winning streaks going as we move closer to the midway point of the regular season.

One of the biggest reasons the Reds have a very good shot this season is because of their pitching staff, as Johnny Cueto has been absolutely electric at the top of the rotation. Through his first 12 starts of the season, Cueto was one of the very best starters in all of Major League Baseball, with an ERA of 1.68 and a ridiculous WHIP of 0.76. With Cueto holding down the fort and giving the Reds a major chance to win every single time that he takes to the bump, the Reds are confident that they're going to turn plenty of Cueto's starts into wins the rest of the season.

Another very bright spot in the rotation has been Alfredo Simon, who has come on very strong with a 3.03 ERA through 11 starts and a team-best seven wins, giving the Reds a big-time boost in the process. Simon really showed what he can do recently in a tough road game against the Nationals in Washington, where he dominated the Nats over seven innings while letting up only one run over seven innings. With Mike Leake also putting together some great starts as well, the Reds have the type of talent in their rotation to get them right back in the playoff picture.

Reds Update – Week of May 2nd

After losing eight of their first 11 games of the season, the Reds have since turned it around, winning two series against the Pirates as well as series against the Cubs since then, boosting them right into third place in the N.L. Central and putting them within striking distance of the second place Cardinals. The Reds have been doing it with a little bit of firepower both on the mound and in the batter's box, making them a well-rounded team that has fans hopeful that they'll be in the playoff mix from here on out.

Leading the way has been the pitching staff, as they rank fifth in the league in quality starts and sixth in opposing batting average, which is a great way to give them a chance at taking home a win every time they take to the diamond. As the rest of the league has found out the hard way so far this season, Johnny Cueto is back in form in a major way, compiling a jaw-dropping 1.15 ERA in his six outings so far – all quality starts. Cueto has also been striking out more than a batter per inning. It hasn't only been Cueto, however, as Alfredo Simon also put together an astounding 1.60 ERA in the first month of the season, giving the Reds a major one-two punch.

On offense, it's no surprise to anyone that the major categories have Joey Votto's name attached. Through April, Votto led the team in batting average with a.280 clip and also topped the team in on-base percentage with.438, one of the highest marks in the league so far. The Reds also have a very balanced offense, as five different hitters have drove in at least 10 runs already this season, which is a winning formula that goes back as long as baseball does. With the Reds heading into big series against the Brewers, the Red Sox and the Rockies in the first half of May, they'll have plenty of challenges as they look to rise in the N.L. Central.

2014 Cincinnati Reds Schedule

It's another year of exciting Major League Baseball and the Reds are sure to give their fans plenty of thrills as they take aim at the top of the divisional standings in the N.L. Central, a top-tier division loaded with some of the most prominent powerhouses in the league. The Reds have a lot of good players that only seem to be improving with each season, making this a team to keep a sharp eye on in 2014. This club is looking to rise in the ranks of the National League Central in an effort to come away with the division crown, guaranteeing plenty of unbelievable moments as the Reds look to make their move and maybe even swing their way toward the Fall Classic - the ultimate goal each and every season for the star-studded Reds.

But it all starts with taking care of their divisional rivals. For one, the Reds will have their work cut out for them when the St. Louis Cardinals come to the Great American Ballpark this season. The Cardinals were able to win the National league Central title last season and advanced all the way to the World Series, so they're naturally going to be a tough team to take down in 2014. The Cardinals again look like a formidable team, so any wins against this ball club would go a long way for a Reds team that is looking to climb to the top of the division standings.

Additionally, the Reds will also have to give it everything they've got on the baseball diamond when the Pittsburgh Pirates come to town. The Pirates were able to finish second in the National League Central standings last season, winning 94 games and earning a Wild Card berth into the playoffs. The Pirates should be in contention for the division title in 2014, which means that the Reds are going to have to play hard against Pittsburgh at home this year if they hope to finish ahead of the Bucs in the standings. It should be a great season to witness some fantastic matchups at the Great American Ballpark this season as the Reds take on some of the toughest teams in the National League in 2014. Whether you're looking for an exciting home game against a division rival or an interleague matchup on the road, there are plenty of options that you know you'll want to be a part of.

Cincinnati Reds Team Info

The Cincinnati Reds play in the National League Central division of Major League Baseball, a division that also features the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs. The Reds were able to finish in third place in the division last season, but their 90 wins were enough to get them into the postseason. While they were unable to capture the National league Pennant in 2013, that is something that is definitely on the minds of these players this year. The Reds will be giving it everything they've got this season in an effort to return to the playoffs, but they always play better at home with a cheering crowd behind them. Of course, it helps that they have plenty of talent on the roster, from established stars like Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips to rising stars like Jay Bruce, this is a team that can do a little bit of everything in the batter's box, but they also have Johnny Cueto dominating on the bump as well. With a well-balanced team, this is a squad you're not going to want to miss out on this year.

The MLB Experience

For a sports fan, it doesn't get much better than being there in the stands when their favorite team takes the field. That is certainly the case for fans of Major League Baseball, as watching a game in the stadium is much more enjoyable than seeing the game from home. Sure, you can watch the Reds take on a quality opponent on your big TV in your living room, but it's a whole different experience to actually be there live and in person. These players are ready to play their hearts out, and the fans in the stands are ready to cheer their hearts out. It should be another exciting season of Reds baseball.

Cincinnati Reds History

The Cincinnati Reds franchise was founded in 1882 as the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The team changed its name to the Cincinnati Reds in 1890, but in 1953 the organization renamed the team the Cincinnati Redlegs. That would only last for five years, though, before the team would revert back to being the Reds. The Reds have won nine National League Pennants and five World Series titles. Over the years, they've also had some of the greatest players in the game, including Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan and many more, making them nothing shy of a powerhouse in the process.

Cincinnati Reds Trivia

Who was the most recent Cincinnati Reds player to win the Most Valuable Player award?

The answer is Joey Votto, who won the MVP in 2010. Votto has come on as one of the best left-handed hitters in baseball and has consistently been in the running for the word, making him one of the top overall players in the league in recent seasons.

The Fans

Fans of the Cincinnati Reds love to see their team hit the baseball diamond in person, and for good reason. Watching a game in person is as good as it gets for baseball fans, and there's something incredible about the camaraderie that comes with rooting for the same team as other people. Friends are made at each and every game at the Great American Ballpark, as baseball just seems to bring people together. Get out to the stadium this season to join the most loyal Reds fans around and you'll see why so many people head out to games all season long. Once you're there watching a nail-biter with thousands of you fellow fans, you'll definitely be glad that you're not sitting anywhere outside of the stands.
