Cleveland Browns Schedule

The Cleveland Browns are ready to take to the field for a season filled with matchups with some of the top teams in the National Football League. The Browns went on quite the ride last season. First the organization shocked the football world when they traded star running back Trent Richardson, a player the franchise had used the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on. Then the team appeared to find a viable starting quarterback in journeyman Brian Hoyer, who played very well after replacing Brandon Weeden and earned the team some early victories. However, Hoyer would suffer a torn ACL and lost his season, and the Browns again were forced to reassess the quarterback position. Things were tough without Hoyer, but the team showed a toughness and grit to them that kept them in many a game. The Browns have a bevy of tough games at home this season, and they know they're going to have to bring their best to come out on top.

Cleveland will see the Baltimore Ravens visit on September 21st for their first divisional home game of the season. The Ravens always bring with them a tough squad that is capable of putting up points in bunches, so the Browns defense will have to perform up to their ability, which is considerable. An early victory against Baltimore would be huge.

The Browns will host the Cincinnati Bengals, who were able to win the division title in 2013, on December 14th for the final home game of 2014. The key to winning that contest could be stopping wide receiver AJ Green, one of the best at his position in the entire league. This game could end up meaning a lot in the AFC North standings. There are many other top matchups this season, so take a peek at the full schedule.

Cleveland Browns Team Info

The Cleveland Browns had an eventful season in 2013; that much is for sure. While the team did not rack up the wins, the Browns looked to make some strides last season. The franchise surprised just about everyone in the National Football League and its circles by trading running back Trent Richardson between Week 2 and Week 3. Richardson was selected by Cleveland with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and compiled 950 rushing yards as a rookie. That's why it was such a shock when the team shipped him to Indianapolis for a first-round pick that was all but assured to be much worse than a third overall selection. The move has looked good, though, as Richardson struggled with the Colts and the Browns got an extra pick in a much-anticipated draft. The Browns made one of the biggest splashes of draft night when they selected Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in the first round. Manziel won't start the season under center, but many fans expect to see him in the starting lineup at some points in 2014.

Browns Trivia

Where did Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel attend college?

The answer is Texas A&M, where he won the Heisman Trophy during his first season as the starter for the Aggies. The Browns are hoping that Manziel's dynamic style of play will translate to the National Football League and catapult them to the top of the standings.

Cleveland Browns History

The Cleveland Browns were founded in 1945 as a member of the All-America Football Conference. Ownership originally wanted to call the team the Panthers, but in a very unique situation in the history of football ended up settling on naming the team after the organization's first head coach, Paul Brown. The Browns were nearly unstoppable during their first several seasons of existence and entered the NFL in 1950, a season in which they won the NFL Championship. The franchise added three more NFL titles before the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, the last of which came in 1964.

The Browns have yet to win a Super Bowl and have been on the bad luck side of some memorable postseason moments, the most famous of which came at the hands of Hall-of-Fame quarterback John Elway and the Denver Broncos in a game that has become known as "The Drive" among NFL fans and historians. But even though the Browns haven't made the playoffs since 2002, they have another talented squad and fans know that it's just a matter of time before they get right back there.
