Science-fiction-based concept albums about universal destruction are in short supply today, and that’s what makes emo/prog-rockers Coheed and Cambria so unique. Tipping their hats to the rock operas of yesteryear, the band is best known for issuing a four-part narrative about a pair of star-crossed lovers named Coheed and Cambria. It’s possible their offspring is infected with a serum that could destroy the world. The story unfolds across several albums, and was recently concluded in a two-part finale released in 2005 and 2007.
The band took form in 2001, comprised of frontman Claudio Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Michael Todd and drummer Joshua Eppard. Garnering comparisons in the music press to established prog-rock groups like Rush, they offered listeners an updated sound, blending emo, punk and rock and fusing it in albums with a narrative. Their five-part storyline was also told through a graphic novel written by Sanchez called “The Amory Wars.” Artwork for the albums following the Coheed and Cambria story tends to reflect their prog-rock roots.
The band is currently touring through May. Whether you’re a fan of emo or prog-rock, Coheed and Cambria tickets are something to check out. Their live shows are amazing, and not many concert tickets afford you an experience like you’ll get here. Check their tour dates and see if they’re coming near you!
