Colgate Raiders Hockey Schedule
The college hockey season is upon us and that can only mean one thing: Starr Rink,
the Hamilton, New York home of the Colgate Raiders hockey team is one of the most electric arenas in all of college sports.
The Raiders have a long and proud history in the sport and will be looking to win another ECAC title as they go up against
all of their biggest conference foes all season long. The fans at Starr Rink give the Colgate Raiders one of the biggest home
ice advantages in all of NCAA hockey making them nearly impossible to beat at home. College hockey is huge in Hamilton and
tickets to see the Raiders play at home always sell out quickly so be sure to get yours from StubHub as soon as possible.
Raiders kick off their home schedule on October 4th when the Queens University Royals come to town. There are several other
big home games this year at Starr Rink this year including games against the Northeastern Huskies, the Mercyhurst Lakers,
the St. Lawrence Saints, the Clarkson Golden Knights, the Brown Bears, the Yale Bulldogs, the Dartmouth Big Green, the Harvard
Crimson, the Cornell Big Red, the Princeton Tigers, the Quinnipiac Bobcats, the Union College Dutchmen, and the RPI Engineers.
Nothing matches the experience of being inside Starr Rink for a Colgate Raiders home game and there are plenty of games to
choose from to head out to show the Raiders your support during the 2014-2015 season.
Raiders are one of the most dominant teams in the history of the ECAC and have proven so by winning both regular season and
conference tournament championships. Their legendary head coach, Don Vaughan, has been with the Raiders for more than two
decades and guided Colgate through many of their most successful seasons. This season Vaughan will certainly have a talented
squad to work with and should be able to guide the Raiders back to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. The Raiders
will be led on the ice by captains Thomas Larkin, Jeremy Price, and Nathan Sinz and should be more than capable of holding
their own against all of the other tough ECAC opponents. This is an exciting time to be a Colgate Raiders hockey fan as it
appears big things are in store for the program and all of the Raiders' die hard fans will want to be there from the start
of the 2014-2015 season to cheer them on to victory.
Colgate Raiders Hockey Conference
Colgate plays hockey
in the ECAC, the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, which is one of the most hotly contested hockey leagues in the country.
This could well be the season that the Colgate Raiders separate themselves from the pack of the other ten participants in
the league and take the title home to Hamilton, New York. The path will not be easy, however, as the Raiders will have to
go up against the Brown Bears, the Clarkson Golden Knights, the Cornell Big Red, the Dartmouth Big Green, the Harvard Crimson,
the Princeton Tigers, the Quinnipiac Bobcats, the RPI Engineers, the St. Lawrence Saints, the Union College Dutchmen, and
the Yale Bulldogs in conference play. Anyone who is familiar with college hockey is well aware that navigating through the
treacherous ECAC conference schedule is an unenviable task, yet the Colgate Raiders appear poised to come out on top. Whoever
comes out of the ECAC unscathed will be well prepared to make a deep post season run, possibly to the Frozen Four, after playing
such a rigorous conference schedule.
Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate
sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding college hockey and Colgate Raiders fans are some
of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire NCAA. On game day at Starr Rink, the fans file in and take their seats
when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works
itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling
hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following
three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging
from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip to Starr Rink.
Colgate Raiders have been conference regular season champions three times, have won their conference tournament once, and
have been to the NCAA Tournament five times, most recently at the end of last season. The most successful Raiders team was
the 1989-1990 team which made it all the way to the Frozen Four.
