About Colin James
Colin spent his hoodlum years in the Saskatchewan province, spending his spare time practicing
guitar before he fell under the tutelage of one of the most apt mentors on the blues music scene - Stevie Ray Vaughan. He
would form a fast friendship with Vaughan, and toured alongside him throughout the United States with his first band, The
Hoodoo Men. Vaughan saw Colin's raw talents, and eventually encouraged him to break out and try his hand at a solo career.
Though he was born Colin James Munn, he would shorten his name to just 'Colin James' and soon become one of the biggest blues
sensations of his generation.
James' big breakout hit would come in 1988, releasing his debut album and exploding all
over the Billboard and the airwaves. His sound was authentically blues but experimented with the mixture of other nontraditional
genres, including swing and jump blues. He also branched out and collaborated with other musicians, forming the Colin James
and the Little Big Band side project which would gain widespread acclaim throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s. For nearly
two decades Colin was putting out material for both his solo project as well as his work with the Little Big Band, cementing
his reputation as a prolific and talented musician of the era.
Colin has received a never ending stream of accolades
and recognitions, including a highly regarded performance in front of none other than Queen Elizabeth II while she was touring
her previously owned property. On top of that, Colin James was called up to the stage three times after three big wins at
the Toronto Blues Society Maples Blues Awards, winning in categories that included Recorder of the Year and Entertainer of
Colin's discography spans multiple decades, with each era of his music being an
artistic experiment and a testament to his longevity as a musician and creativity as an artist. His debut self titled album
Colin James would drop in 1988, garnering a four star rating from media critic Allmusic and propelling him into the spotlight.
The album would be recorded in beautiful Miami Florida, with vibes from the city infusing themselves into the hard blues rock
sound that would define Colin's early years. Released on Virgin records, his debut would put him squarely in the eyes of the
music community and earn him a Juno Award for Most Promising Artist, a prediction about his future success that would spot
Amongst Colin's other major landmark albums is 1993's Colin James and the Little Big Band, his first serious foray
into the swing revival genre. A commercial success, this swing revival album would be carried by crowd favorite singles "Train
Kept A-Rollin" and "Cadillac", and gave Colin the title of not just an amazing performer but a musical innovator as well.
