The Colorado Ballet was originally founded as a ballet school by Freidann Parker and Lillian Covillo back in 1951. Both
natives of Denver, they felt that the city needed a home for dance to thrive. It didn't just bring high culture to Denver
- it created an institution for the entire state, and has drawn out fans of the performing arts ever since.
The Colorado Ballet's performances each season are generally held in one of two venues. Either the Ellie Caulkins Opera
House or the Gates Concert Hall at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts on Denver University's campus host the shows.
