Colorado Rapids Schedule

The Colorado Rapids are concluding their eighth season in the MLS and have quickly become one of the league's most successful franchises. They currently sit in seventh place in the Western Conference with a few games remaining on the schedule that could greatly improve their positioning for the playoffs. Soccer has seen a big rise in popularity following the World Cup this past summer and this season has been one of the most highly attended yet for the MLS. Soccer still has a long way to go in North America before it reaches the level of popularity it enjoys in the rest of the world but it is certainly making major strides in the area. The passion of the Colorado Rapids' fan base is unmatched in the rest of the MLS and being there at Dick's Sporting Goods Park when the Rapids take the field is an experience you will never forget.

The Colorado Rapids are currently battling for a playoff spot and sit just behind the Portland Timbers while trying to fend off the San Jose Earthquakes and Chivas USA. The Rapids have one more home game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado before the end of the regular season which will be against FC Dallas on Saturday, October 18th with kickoff slated for 1:00 PM. FC Dallas are near the top of the Western Conference standings and a win against them could give the Rapids some serious momentum as they head into the playoffs. The last home game of the regular season is a great way to celebrate the great season the Rapids have had and to give them a big send off as they get ready to embark on their quest to bring home another MLS Cup. StubHub is the place to go for tickets to this game as well as every big Colorado Rapids game.

Colorado Rapids Rivalries

The Colorado Rapids' main rival is Real Salt Lake who joined the MLS in 2005 and became the second team located in the Rocky Mountain area. Each year the two teams compete for the Rocky Mountain Cup and the Rapids are looking to get the Cup back after winning the first two contests and then going on to lose the next eight.

The Experience

There are few events as exciting as seeing one top notch soccer team compete at home against another. The players in the MLS have grown up playing the sport that they love and are out there s much to advance the popularity of the sport in the United States. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and gives birth to the most fervent and dedicated fans. One step into Dick's Sporting Goods Park when the Colorado Rapids are playing and you will understand what all of the fuss is about. Unrelenting action, otherworldly footwork, stunning slide tackles, and mind blowing, acrobatic saves by goalkeepers will have you seeing exactly why soccer is referred to as "the beautiful game." You will be chanting and singing along and barely even need to use your seat, as move after move will have you jumping up and cheering for the home team. By the time the referee blows the final whistle you will be anxiously awaiting the next opportunity to attend a Colorado Rapids game and will find yourself an MLS and soccer fan for life.

Colorado Rapids Major League Soccer

The Colorado Rapids play in the MLS, or Major League Soccer, which is the premiere soccer league in the United States and Canada and is also a member of CONCACAF. Nineteen teams in the league compete during the regular season which begins each March hoping to earn a spot in the postseason. Each team plays thirty four regular season games with the regular season champion being awarded the Supporters' Shield. The top ten teams advance to the playoffs with the last two teams playing in the MLS Cup in December. The first season of the MLS was in 1996 with ten charter members of which the Columbus Crew was one. Plans for establishing the league began as far back as 1988 when U.S. Soccer made an agreement with FIFA to have plans to get a Division I professional soccer league in place in order to be allowed to host the 1994 World Cup. The league is granted a spot for three American teams in the CONCACAF Champions League while another team has the chance to qualify via the U.S. Open Cup. Year after year MLS gains more fans and it stands as one of the five major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.

It did not take long for the Rapids to find success in the MLS as they reached the MLS Cup Final in 1997, their second year in the league, when they fell to DC United. The Rapids finally won their first MLS Cup until 2010.
