Colorado Rapids Schedule in 2014

The Colorado Rapids are ready to rack up the victories this season as they take on some of the best teams in Major League Soccer. Colorado has a roster brimming with top soccer talent, and the organization is hoping that such a talent level will translate into win on the field. The Rapids had a solid 2013 season, as they secured the final playoff spot in the conference. They were, however, ousted from the playoffs in the Knockout Round by Seattle Sounders FC. The Rapids are back this season looking to rise in the ranks, and they'll have to beat some of the best teams in the league to do so.

Colorado has gotten off to a good start in 2014, and they're looking to use that momentum to carry them throughout the season. The Rapids put together two convincing wins in back-to-back home games this season on May 24th and June 1st when they took down Montreal 4-1 and Houston 3-0. The Raids hope they can take down some more top teams as the season progresses.

The Rapids will be looking to get revenge on Seattle for knocking them out of the playoffs last season when the Sounders visit Dick's Sporting Goods Park on October 5th. The Rapids are sure to pull out all the stops in order to secure a victory, and it should make for a great game. Fans will be packing the stands to be a part of this and other great matchups in 2014.

Colorado Rapids History

The Colorado Rapids were one of 10 founding clubs off Major League Soccer, owned and operated by the Anschutz Corporation. The Rapids did not have a good first season, and the following year saw some changes. Glenn Myernick became their new head coach and a new general manager, Dan Counce, was brought on board. The team faced some obstacles early on, but rallied to seize a post-season spot - making it to the 1997 MLS Cup final but losing to the D.C. United. The Rapids made it to the 1999 U.S. Open Cup were defeated by the Rochester Raging Rhinos. The 2000 season had some milestone moments. The first was Marcelo Balboa's famous bicycle kick, which garnered the Goal of the Year. The second was clinching a playoff spot in the final game of the season against the Los Angeles Galaxy, with Paul Bravo scoring in the 97th minute. Over the years the fans have seen many changes in management, but through it all they continue to be a solid team.

The team has certainly evolved since their humble beginnings. They have undergone to major re-brandings. First using green as the primary kit color, the Rapids then went with black and blue for the 2003 season. When the team relocated to Dick's Sporting Goods Park, they re-invented themselves once again to more closely align with the DNA and color format of other KSE teams. The colors were transitioned to burgundy and blue, and a brand-new logo was designed to fit in with more traditional global soccer marks.

The Colorado Rapids claimed the MLS Cup in 2010 and were runners-up in 1997. They were also winners of the MLS Eastern Conference in 2010. The year 1997 saw the Rapids win the MLS Western Conference and in 1999, the Colorado Rapids were runners-up in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The team also has two trophies for the MLS Reserve Division (2006, 2007).
