Rockies Update – Week of July 4

The Rockies are right in the middle of the N.L. West as we approach the halfway mark and looking to turn the corner, giving fans some reasons for optimism as they look to chase down the division-leading Giants and the Dodgers. Though the Rockies have had a rough patch or two this season, they've also had more than their fair share of big wins as well, showing what they're capable of when they play Rockies' baseball. Even with some work left to do this season, the Rockies have the talent level to put together some major winning streaks, and fans know that there is plenty of baseball left to be played.

One of the major reasons for optimism is because of the outstanding play of Troy Tulowitzki, who has taken his game to the next level and is looking like the National League MVP at the halfway point of the season. Though shortstop is a position not known for run production – particularly these days – it's been Tulowitzki who has lit up pitchers all season long while being near the top of the league in many offensive categories. With the inside track on winning a batting title and a tendency to hit the ball out of the ballpark with regularity as well, Tulowitzki has given the Rockies an anchor in the heart of their order all year long.

It hasn't all bit about Tulowitzki, however, as Justin Morneau is having a resurgence of his own for the Rockies. Near the top of the league in RBIs and hitting well over.300, Morneau has helped provide one of the best one-two punches in the league, pushing the Rockies to the top of the National League in most team hitting categories. With the Rockies showing they can score in bunches, this is a team that looks like they will continue to torment opposing pitchers throughout the rest of the season as they hope to make some ground in the N.L. West.

2014 Colorado Rockies Schedule

With a star-studded roster and some big-time hopes this season, there are sure to be plenty of thrills as the Rockies look to once again be a major factor in the N.L. West, which is never easy considering the level of competition they'll be facing. But the Rockies have a nice collection of talent that could carry them all the way to the playoffs this year, but they're going to have to win a lot of their tough home games to make that dream a reality. The Rockies have loads of big matchups on their home schedule this season, making it a great year for Rockies fans to head out to the ball park to witness the game the way it is supposed to be seen, live and in person from your very own spot in the stands. Don't forget about the away games, though, as the Rockies also have quite the fan following whenever they're on a road trip, giving you 81 more ways to see your favorite team in action.

Of course, it starts with some wins in the division, and the Rockies will be looking to do exactly that. The Rockies now that they're to face a tough test each and every time the Los Angeles Dodgers head into Coors Field this season. The Dodgers were able to win the National League West championship last season thanks to their incredible collection of talent. The Dodgers are going to be a tough team to take down this season, but the Rockies have beaten teams of this caliber in the past.

The San Francisco Giants might have been a little off their game in 2013, but don't expect that to happen again. With one of the best pitching staffs in the game, the Giants are always tough to defeat, and everyone in the National League West know that all too well. The Giants are going to head into Denver several times this season to take on the Rockies, and those should be some of the best games on the docket in 2014. These are the kinds of matchups that fans do not want to miss seeing in person from their very own seats in the stands, as watching the Rockies from the stands will give you a complexly different level of access to Major League Baseball than you can ever hope to get from home.
