Did you know that legendary baseball player Lou Gehrig came to Columbia with a football scholarship?

Gehrig was just one of those guys who could do a little bit of everything, and he came to Columbia in the early 1920s to play football for the Lions and study engineering. After some complications about whether he would play baseball or football in the early going, Gehrig would have an impact at fullback for the Lions on the football field and then would be both a pitcher and first baseman for the baseball team.
