Come Back, Little Sheba tells the story of Lola and Doc Delaney and the couple’s latest boarder, a college
art student named Marie. The plot follows the overweight Lola around as she relives her glory days through Marie while Doc
tries at all costs to forget the past as a former alcoholic and promising doctor. The show’s title is named after
the couple’s lost dog, Sheba.
In 1974 Clint Ballard, Jr and Lee Goldsmith adapted the play for the musical stage, but it wasn’t revived until
2001 at the White Barn Theatre in Westport Connecticut. The story has been made into a film while the ‘80s saw a revival
act off-Broadway. Most recently a Broadway revival came in January 2008 at the Biltmore Theatre with direction by Michael
Pressman and S. Epatha Merkerson as Lola. Get Come Back, Little Sheba
