Common originally worked under the name Common Sense, and grew up on the South Side of Chicago, rising through the hip-hop community to become one of the best-known underground rap stars of the ‘90s. His debut album as Common was released in 1997 and featured big names, including Lauryn Hill, Q-Tip, De la Soul, Erykah Badu and more.
