About Conor Oberst
from Omaha, Nebraska, Conor Oberst would spend his youth immersed in the local music scene, participating in various choirs
and music outfits before heading off to attend the University of Nebraska. Conor would not be enamored with the linear college
to 9-5 life trajectory, and instead decided to focus on songwriting and music creating, eventually dropping out of college
after just over a year.
Conor's earliest forays into the music world would be playing onstage with musician Ted Stevens,
where he would catch the eye of established artist Bill Hoover. The two would work together, feeding off of one another's
energy and leading Conor to put together his first set list of tracks that would be the spark to ignite Conor's career.
spent the early 90s tirelessly recording and touring North America, releasing his debut on a cassette tape on freshly minted
label Lumberjack Records. Financed by himself and his brother, Conor became a breakout musician and a record exec at the same
time. He would soon form the short lived outfits Commander Venus and The Faint, producing albums with both groups and going
on limited tours around the United States. Unable to be satiated by three simultaneous music projects, he would also go on
to form Park Ave. in the mid 90s, as well as Bright Eyes, with the lattermost eventually becoming Conor's spearheading music
project that brought his sound to a global audience.
Bright Eyes' would be a project completely under Conor's artistic
control, with most of the songwriting and recording done by Conor on his own. The late 90s would see a steady buildup of the
Bright Eyes discography, with the turn of the decade bringing the band square into the spotlight with music critics across
the spectrum keeping an eye on Conor and his up and coming music career. The Bright Eyes music phenomenon would continue to
pick up speed throughout the 00s, with each album finding a special place in the various great album of all times listings.
By 2011 Conor would unofficially retire Bright Eyes, and expand again onto various other music projects, including Desaparecidos,
Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Monsters of Folk, as well as his own solo projects.
Despite frequent band changes,
Conor Oberst has lost none of his performance fire as he constantly remains on the road, while simultaneously recording new
material. While working as a solo artist, Conor typically brings a few select performers to accompany him as he plays tracks
from his near twenty years of music experience, sampling from favorites from the Mystic Valley Band, Monsters of Folk, and
Bright Eyes. He also takes the opportunity to present new original material, making every Conor Oberst performance an exciting
event that pleases die hard Bright Eyes fans and the uninitiated alike. As of 2014 Conor is showing no signs of slowing down
as he maintains a constant tour schedule and a steady stream of fresh, innovative new releases every year.
Conor Oberst's 2008 self titled full length release remains the fundamental piece of Conor's solo discography.
The album would be written, recorded, and produced exclusively by Conor, and was his first earnest solo effort since his earliest
albums that spanned the early and mid 90s, before the monumental success of Bright Eyes. Conor Oberst would receive great
acclaim from music critics across the board, including an A- from Time Magazine, a four star review from The Times, and a
favorable rating from Crawdaddy! The album contains a slew of Conor Oberst favorites, including "Cape Canaveral", "Milk Thistle",
Conor's 2009 followup Outer South would perform even better than his self titled, with four star
ratings from AllMusic and BlareMagazine, as well as an 8/10 rating from Drowned in Sound. The album would see accompaniment
from various friend musicians of Conor's, and spawned the hit tracks "Big Black Nothing", "Difference Is Time" and "Eagle
on a Pole".
Conor has been heavily involved in animal rights, including supporting PETA and altering
his diet to not include animals. His tastes have changed over the years, however, with him moving from vegan to vegetarian
to pescatarian, and he now professes to eat meat from time to time.
