Though he attempted to pursue education after high school, starting at the University of Texas at Arlington, music was in his blood and he dropped out of school not but a year later. After struggling in Nashville for five years he earned a publishing deal and eventually a recording contract with Virgin Records. His first album appeared in July 2000, titled Play It Loud, and was reissued in 2001 when he switched to Capitol Records.
