Kansas’ style earned them the status of classic rock radio staple, their singles internationally recognized for their unique sound that blended both British prog rock with an American heartland that is represented in their name.
Formed in Topeka, Kansas with members Kerry Livgren (guitarist), Dave Hope (bassist), Phil Ehart (drummer), and Robbie Steinhardt (violin), the high school boys initially were shunned by critics for their mix of boogie and pop rock, but saw success with the hit single “Carry On Wayward Son,” from the 1976 album Leftoverture. From there, Kansas saw international fame.
Creating over a twenty albums since high school friends Kansas came together, the British/American folk pop group has seen over a dozen Billboard chart topping albums, with double that in singles. The group has seen success into the most recent decade, with their 2006 album Works in Progress, a live album that will get you ready for your own Kansas concert!
