About Cristian Castro
Hailing from the world's most populated
city, Cristian was born in Mexico City to parents Veronica Castro and Manuel Valdes. The son of two entertainers, Cristian
had the blood of an artist pumping in him from day one, where he would learn from his father's comedy routines and his mother's
time spent singing and on the silver screen. On top of all that, his aunt and uncle are producers in the entertainment industry
- basically guaranteeing that all of Cristian's undeniable talent was going to be put to good use. He would bust his acting
chops on the famous telenovela El Derecho de Nacer, then moved on to television commercials and theater. Before he had become
an adult, Castro had already chalked up more entertainment industry successes than some artists do in an entire lifetime.
the tender age of 18, Cristian formally launched his singing career in 1992. Not satisfied with only appealing to a Mexican
audience, Castro widened his appeal to a pan Latin base, starting in Puerto Rico before coming a phenomenon all across Latin
America. One of his earliest accolades would come with a nomination from the Lo Nuestro Awards, for New Pop Artist of the
Year. The nod would be confirmation that Cristian had made the right choice, and was the first of many critical recognitions
Castro would receive for his musical talents.
Working with a flurry of Latin musicians such as Juan Gabriel and Jorge
Avendano Luhrs, Cristian continued to build his repertoire of hits and he popped up all over the Latin American charts and
received yet another nod from the Los Nuestros for Pop Artist of the Year. His work would expand into not just collaborations
but also television work, creating memorable theme songs for the hugely popular telenovelas Angela and Mujer De Madera. He
would soon depart his smaller Latin American based label Fonovisa in favor of Sony based BMG, and promptly received another
nod for the Best Latin Pop Album of the Year. Nonstop success was becoming a fundamental part of Cristian's illustrious music
Today, Castro is still recording with Sony and continuing to open up his fan base all across both South and
North America. He is still a big part of the Latin American music scene, and recently made an appearance at the Latin Grammys,
where he dedicated his performance to his idol Jose Romula Sosa Ortiz, also known by his stage name Jose Jose.
Cristian's 1992 release, Agua nueva, would be his first burst onto the international scene, and it performed admirably
well with a #48 showing on the US Latin Billboard. The album would be an opening for his 1994 followup El Camino Del Alma,
his largely popular #5 charting hit, which featured some of his most timeless singles such as "Con tu amor" and "Azul gris",
both of which lit up the charts individually.
1997 was Cristian's biggest year yet, with the release of critically acclaimed
Lo Mejor De Mi, which hit #5 again on the US Latin Billboard and his first ever number one on Argentina's top hits. The album
would be certified double platinum, and be carried by his unforgettable singles "Lo Mejor de Mi", "Si Tu Me Amaras", and "Lloran
Cristian's most recent release, Mi Amigo El Principe, would immediately go gold and hit the #2 position
on the US Latin and Mexican charts, solidifying Cristian as a generation spanning artist who still has plenty of good jams
Castro is now married to his second wife, after splitting up with famous Paraguayan model
Gabriela Bo. He is now married to Argentinian Valeria Liberman, and the two have converted to Judaism.
