Hailing from South Gale, California, Cypress Hill pioneered the way for the American/Latino hip-hop artists by being the
first of its genre to garner platinum and multi-platinum albums, selling over 18 million albums globally. Cypress Hill additionally
had several other milestone moments occur during their career. The group's sophomore album, Black Sunday, landed at No. 1
on the Billboard 200 in 1993. With their debut still keeping a spot in the charts, they became the first rap group to have
two albums place in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 simultaneously. Black Sunday also earned triple platinum certification
in the U.S. and sold about 3.25 million copies!
In 1988, brothers Senen Reyes and Ulpiano Sergio Reyes collaborated with Lawrence Muggerud and Louis Freese to organize
a hip-hop group named Devastating Vocal Excellence (DVX). The band lost Sergio to a solo career so they assumed the name,
Cypress Hill, coined after a street in South Gate. A 1989 demo led to inking a deal with Columbia Records. Their self-titled
debut album was launched in 1991 with the lead single being The Phuncky Feel One/How I Could Just Kill a Man. It garnered
solid airplay on college and urban radio. Hand on the Pump and Latin Lingo, the other two singles from the album, also drew
attention, leading to 2 million copies being sold in the U.S. alone.
Over the years, Cypress Hill has participated in a number of prominent tours and concerts, including Lollapalooza. Additionally,
the band headlined the Soul Assassins Tour with Funkdoobiest and House of Pain. They also embarked on a college tour with
Seven Year Bitch and Rage Against the Machine. The group additionally played at Woodstock 94. There are always plenty of Cypress
