Billy Currington was raised in Rincon, Georgia by his mother and step-father. Currington's step-father came into his life when he was a year-and-a-half old painting a picture of alcohol abuse. Currington's first released single "Walk a Little Straighter" was based on his step-father's alcoholism. After high school, Currington moved to Nashville to work on getting his music out there and after a lot of hard work, got signed by Mercury Records.
