13. He shares the same passion for music that his brothers and sisters possess, but unlike his siblings, Damian's forte is
"deejaying," which is the Jamaican style of rapping. As evidenced by his stage presence, Damian Marley is very much at home
in the world of music, and he is also a tremendously talented songwriter.

Damian Marley Background
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Damian Marley is the son of Bob Marley
and Cindy Breakspeare, the 1976 Miss World. He was just two years old when his famous father passed away. Raised in a Kingston
suburb by his mother, Cindy, Damian Marley spent a lot of time at Rita Marley's home. Despite Bob's wandering eye, his wife,
Rita Marley, graciously welcomed and accepted all of Bob Marley's children from other relationships into her home. In fact
Damian Marley explained to Entertainment Weekly that Rita's home "was like the family HQ."
At an early age, Damian Marley
embarked on his own musical journey. During his formative teen years, he played with the Shepherds. The band enjoyed some
success in Jamaica, but Marley eventually made the decision to venture out on his own. He collaborated with Stephen, his older
sibling, on his debut album, Mr. Marley (1996). The pair co-penned several of the album's songs together. Embracing his musical
roots, Marley revealed to the planet "Me Name Jr. Gong." But the album's buoyant dancehall approach didn't resonate with some
listeners. Damian and Stephen both claimed Grammy Awards for their next album, Halfway Tree (2001). The effort mashed hip-hop
styles with dance hall and garnered high praise. But despite the critical acclaim, the album didn't fare well in terms of
record sales. But still Damian could relish the fact that he took home a Grammy - and that his father never did. Reggae music
wasn't added as a category until the mid-1980s.
Damian's true breakthrough moment occurred when he released the single
"Welcome to Jamrock" in 2004. With the lyrics set to the backdrop of a captivating rhythm, the song delved into the real-life
obstacles and political struggles faced by the Jamaican people. The track's success led to multiple courtships by labels,
and Damian decided to go with Universal. Also in 2004, Damian took part in the Bob Marley Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival Tour,
which covered nearly 30 cities. He was joined by his four brothers, Julian, Ziggy, Ky-Mani and Stephen.
The album Welcome
to Jamrock arrived in 2005 and infused elements of hip-hop, reggae and R&B. The album cracked the top or near the top
of all of the charts representing those genres, including scoring the No. 7 spot on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. Damian
Marley took home another Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. For the second time in four years, Damian and
Stephen garnered the Grammy for the Best Reggae Album.
Today, Damian Marley continues to circle the globe, touring most
of the year. And, when he's not touring, he splits his time between his homes in Kingston, Jamaica, and Miami, Florida.
