British crooner Dan Croll was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme,
Staffordshire, England. He moved to Liverpool at the age of 18 to attend the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA).
During his time at LIPA, he won the national Songwriter of the Year award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund and was one of
eight students chosen to have a one-to-one with LIPA founder Sir Paul McCartney.
Dan Croll scored a deal with Turn First
Records at the beginning of 2012. His very first single, "From Nowhere," was released internationally on September 24, 2012
through Turn First / Racquet Records (Croll's own imprint) in the form of a digital download and limited 7". "From Nowhere"
spent a total of 3 days at the top of the Hype Machine popular charts, was playlisted in the UK on BBC 6 Music, XFM and Amazing
Radio, and garnered spot plays on BBC Radio 1. Croll was selected as a Guardian New Band of the Day in November 2012 and described
as "Paul Simon jamming with Prince. Very nice."
Croll put out his sophomore single "Compliment Your Soul" in March of
2013. In July 2013, he released the song "In/Out." Another original song by Dan Croll was issued on October 13, 2013 on YouTube,
On October 29, 2013, in the middle of an on-air Virgin Radio interview, Dan Croll announced that he had
finished working on his full-length debut album. The LP is expected for release in early 2014. Croll told Variance Magazinein
October that he was aiming for the album to be released sometime in mid-February.
His tune "Compliment Your Soul" was
featured on the soundtrack for FIFA 2014. In November 2013, he announced at a London concert that his debut album would be
titledSweet Disarray, scheduled for release on March 10, 2014.
Croll's debut release was
as part of the Communion Records' compilation New Faces, issued on April 23, 2012. In addition to supporting this release,
Communion has also promoted a number of Dan's early live shows. Communion is an organization led by several musical artists,
one that contributes to the areas of live promotion, publishing, records, and production. The organization originally began
as a hub for musicians to further their careers. Communion first formed in London in 2006, and was originally founded by Ben
Lovett of Mumford & Sons, former Cherbourg bassist Kevin Jones, and producer Ian Grimble.
Communion is known for
working with a wide variety of artists, and its label has issued records from Marcus Foster, Matthew and the Atlas, Pete Roe,
Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, Matt Corby, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Daughter, among many other artists. The organization has
also released three of its own recorded compilation LPs. Communion kicked off a United States division in 2011, and released
an Australian division in 2012.
Communion regularly hosts Communion in the Redwoods, a yearly three-day celebration
that takes place in Big Sur, California. The 2012 event took place on October 26-28, and featured acts including The Devil
