Danny Elfman Background
The son of a novelist and a teacher, Danny Elfman was born in Texas
and raised in L.A. When he turned 18, he relocated to France with his brother, Richard. In France, Elfman joined a theater
group and was introduced to the art of musical orchestration. He and his brother also took the initiative of establishing
Mystic Knights of Oingo Boingo. The musical troupe would eventually evolve into cult fave and ska-inspired, New Wave band
Oingo Boingo. Following his stint in France, Elfman journeyed on to Africa, but his stay was cut short when he contracted
malaria and was made to return to the U.S. In 1980, Elfman composed his first score for the Forbidden Zone, which was his
brother's movie. A couple of years later, Elfman was introduced to Tim Burton. The two became fast friends and Elfman worked
on the score for Pee-Wee's Big Adventure - a Burton film. Elfman continued to collaborate with Burton on all of his big pictures,
and their creative partnership evolved into legendary status in the industry, which has spanned over three decades. Elfman's
reputation grew considerably once the public discovered his work on the Burton film, Beetlejuice (1988). Fans appreciated
the soundtrack's frenzied, original score, which was evident by both the film and soundtrack's success. Elfman garnered additional
rave reviews for his notable contributions to the Batman series, Dick Tracy, Mission: Impossible, A Simple Plan, Anywhere
but Here, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, Frankenweenie, Restless, Milk, and Edward Scissorhands. Today,
Danny Elfman continues to lend his extraordinary talents to films and side projects, keeping audiences entertained with everything
he comes up with.
