About Dave Alvin
Dave was born in Downey, California, in 1955, and
was surrounded by music-lovers from day one. His parents and his brother all loved singing, playing instruments, and grooving
to some bluesy beats. Growing up in such a musical family led he and his brother, Phil Alvin, to start a band called The Blasters
in 1979. By blending blues, rockabilly, punk rock, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues, The Blasters created a unique sound
that sparked a sensation across the United States and throughout Europe. The group toured continuously for virtually the entire
life of the band, much to the pleasure of their avid fans. But after countless exhausting years of continuous touring, The
Blasters failed to become a huge commercial success, and so Dave decided to leave the band in 1986 to pursue a solo career,
which he hoped would better highlight his songwriting skills as well as his vocal talents.
While on his own, Dave infused
more country into his bluesy sound, earning him high praise from critics. In 2000, Dave Alvin accomplished something that
most musicians can only dream of: he won a Grammy. This prestigious award for Best Contemporary Folk Album gave new life to
his musical career and also validated his years of songwriting and performing. Today, Dave not only writes and performs his
own music, but he also helps write and produce songs for other musicians like Tom Russell and Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite
Boys, making him one of the most respected and admired musicians in the game. If you like funky blends of various musical
genres, namely blues and rock, you won't be able to stay sitting down while you listen to Dave Alvin perform--you will just
have to get up and dance a bit.
Throughout his successful career, Dave Alvin has accumulated
numerous hits and accolades, many of which acknowledge his skill of songwriting. Not all musicians that sing well and play
instruments can write a great song, which is why there are so many songwriters behind the scenes of hit singles and albums
(a job that Dave Alvin also has). Yet Dave Alvin is one of the truly rare and talented musicians that can do it all, and his
hard work and natural musical gift has produced some of his most famous songs include "Dark Eyes" and "Harlan Country Line".
The Blasters also had a number of successful singles, such as "Dark Night", "Marie, Marie", and "American Music".
Even if you haven't seen him on stage yet, you may have seen Dave Alvin gracing your television screen.
He was written into a script of FX's "Justified", where he performed his single, "Harlan Country Line". "Justified" is about
a U.S. Marshall who enforces his own version of the law in a small Kentucky town, the setting and subject matter of which
are the perfect backdrop for Alvin's somewhat dark and country-inspired song, "Harlan Country Line".
are two things that Dave thinks he does best: write songs and perform them. And boy is he right about that—Dave Alvin
consistently puts on great shows, and audiences can't help but tap their feet and sway their hips to his soulful, bluesy beats
and the electric twang of his guitar. No matter where you see Dave Alvin on tour, you won't feel overwhelmed by flashing lights,
gimmicks, and distracting backup dancers that are so prevalent in today's music scene. Instead, you will get a rare treat
of listening to a talented performer who has poured his heart into his lyrics. As you watch his sincerity and listen to his
songs, you will feel like you are at an intimate country neighborhood gathering rather than at a concert. So don't miss out
on seeing this roots rock legend perform and buy a ticket to his concert on StubHub today!
