Best known for his nervy live performances and vocals with The Talking Heads, Byrne as solo artist has gone in many new directions since then. Born in Dumbarton, Scotland, Byrne began Talking Heads in the late ‘70s before beginning a solo career by the late ‘80s. He has collaborated with some of music’s greats to develop a unique brand of style.
Following his passion for world beat music, Byrne founded a record label in the late ‘80s, Luaka Bop, which has given American listeners a new avenue to enjoy world music. He’s also known for his “architectural” concerts, channeling vibrations through empty buildings that produce sounds from their very walls and beams, or pushing air through their heating pipes, producing flute sounds.
