David Gilmour was born March 6, 1944 in Cambridge, England. David Gilmour got his start with the band Pink Floyd when he filled in for Syd Barret while he was having mental issues and then filled in for him permanently when Barret had a mental breakdown. Gilmour was able to contribute to Pink Floyds second album A Saucerful of Secrets in 1968.
